Archery

A Maine Archery Association  “Shooter of the Year”  tournament was hosted by the North Berwick Rod & Gun Club on January 10, 2016. Everyone who attended enjoyed shooting in the new indoor facilities. We had room in both the morning and the afternoon lines to accommodate a total of 40 shooters for the day. Our ending tally was a total of 32 shooters which has been about the average at other clubs since November 2015 when these indoor shoots began.  Out of these 32 attendees, 7 were from the North Berwick Club. Tournament shooting with a bow can be quiet taxing, so everyone needs to congratulate themselves for finishing.

The top score of the day was shot by Dave Cousins (center photo) from Windham with an unbelievable score of 600 out of 600 with 52 X’s out of a possible 60 X’s. David is a world class champion with many victories under his belt at both US and Europeon tournaments . He has many 1st place wins including the “Las Vegas” classic in the past few years. David can easily be googled on the internet where one can watch him shootin competition on some you tube videos. The center X on those vegas style 3 spot targets is the size of a dime. So hitting a dime 52 out of 60 times at 60 feet is extremely difficult for the average archer to accomplish. He donated the target to the club which is now displayed on the wall for inspriation!  The 2nd highest score of the day (591 with 26 X’s) was shot by Ray McIntire of Standish who is now 70 years old which proves shooting can get better with age!
